The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 43 year old man, Lateef Suleiman, over the alleged killing of his elder brother in Sepeteri, headquarters of Saki East Local Government Area of Oyo State.
DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, Oyo state Police Public Relations Officer, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, March 4.
According to a statement, the incident was reported at the Ago Amodu Divisional Police Headquarters by one Badmus Yunisa of Alegunlode Compound, Sepeteri.
Police preliminary findings indicate that the suspect allegedly attacked his 52 year old brother, Mustapha Amidu, following an accusation that the deceased had shot him in a dream while he slept the previous night.
Acting on that belief, the suspect was said to have approached his brother where he was seated, picked up a heavy rock and struck him on the head before fleeing the scene.
The victim was rushed to Ileri Oluwa Hospital, Sepeteri, for urgent medical attention but was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
Police operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer, Ago Amodu Division, visited both the scene of the incident and the hospital as part of preliminary investigations.
The suspect has since been apprehended and is currently in custody, assisting detectives with their inquiries.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a discreet and comprehensive investigation.
The Command assured residents that justice would be pursued in line with the law and urged members of the public to remain calm while investigations continue.
